Myrl Wayne Ives was born on October 24, 1943 to Sullivan William Ives Jr and Dorothy Mae Scybist Ives in Harrah Ok. He grew up in Oklahoma City, and lived with his parents until 1963. He had two sisters, Joyce Elaine, Evelyn Jane and one brother, William Malane. He married Alice June Davis on April 19, 1963. Three beautiful daughters were born to their union, Julie Ann, Cynthia Jane, and Debra Denise. Myrl and June established their home in Bethany, Oklahoma. They lived there until October 1995 at which time they purchased Quasada Ranch - a bed, breakfast, lunch, dinner fishing and cattle ranch in rural Okemah, Oklahoma. He could never quite believe he was an honest to goodness owner of a ranch and all those fishing ponds, he blossomed in the country. Myrl and June enjoyed life on the farm until it was no longer possible for June to care for him alone. He was diagnosed with vascular dementia in November 2010 and was in for a long, hard fought battle. We are so blessed that throughout his journey, he kept his laid back sense of humor, his ability to recognize loved ones, and his kind gentle nature until the end. He died peacefully in June’s arms after 52 years and 11 ½ months of marriage.
He and June have three (6) grandchildren, Nathan Wayne Williams and his wife Miley Michelle (Wind) Williams; Joseph Eli Williams and his fiancée Brittney Nicole Burton; Lacie Nicole Marie Fullbright and her husband Levi Suede Fullbright; five great grandsons, Jayce Daniel Wayne Williams, Joseph Eli Williams Jr, River Orion Nathan Williams, Phierce Raiden Hartley Williams, and Atlas Wraith Phoenix Williams. His girls, grands and greats were the absolute joy of his life – his family and friends were a blessing and they all shared many wonderful times together.
He hit the lottery in every way that counts in this life. Julie and Jimmie, Cyndee and Mark, Deb and Linda (Vern) Vernon have all been their constant support system for many years, even prior to his diagnosis. His entire family cared for him from the time he got sick, all their lives really. Julie, Jimmie, Debbie, Linda (Vern), Nathan, Miley, Joey, Brittney, Lacie, Levi, Jayce, River, and Phierce were always on hand to help with Papa. Someone was there to help, whether it was to pick him up (when he fell or June just couldn’t hold on to him and they both fell), to play cards or dominos, take him bowling, go to the casino, go fishing or hunting, go on a river boat, to the Shedd aquarium or simply sing Mambo Number 5 in his old blue truck. The dementia progressed, and in August of 2014 Myrl and June moved to South Elgin, Illinois where they have been cared for lovingly and tenderly by Mark and Cyndee until after his passing on April 8, 2016. His children and grandchildren made many long hard trips to South Elgin, IL to visit and keep him in the knowledge of their continued love and support.
He is survived by his wife, June of the home, Julie and Jimmie Williams, Cyndee and Mark Zbylut, Deb Ives and Linda (Vern) Vernon, his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sister Janie Hardin, his two aunts, Nadine Bealmer and Delores Morton, his sister-in-law Sandy Davis, countless extended family members including his nieces Krista Davis, Shellie Jones, Tracy Martin, Sherrie Rose, Christina Stokesbury, his nephews Sean Cobb, Jason Davis, Jeffrey Davis, Tony Davis, Matthew Ives and Steven Jones.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sullivan William Ives Sr., Florence Peterman, Edward Lee Scybist, Victoria Christine Nesbitt Niedrawicz, his parents Sullivan William Ives Jr. and Dorothy Mae Scybist Ives, in-laws Henry Eli Davis and Frances E. Davis, his sister Joyce, his brother Bill, his brother-in-law Phillip Henry Davis and his great grandson Atlas Wraith Phoenix Williams.
He was a devoted Catholic Christian his entire life. He brought that faith first to his wife, and made sure his girls were trained in the way of the Faith. He was the best son, husband, brother, daddy, granddaddy, great granddaddy, nephew, cousin, brick layer, rancher, host and furniture salesman in the world. He was not perfect by worldly standards, nor was he rich monetarily – but he was to us. As Myrl would say about his life, it was pretty good. Everyone who knows him sent a little part of their heart to heaven with him, and he is greatly missed.
