Paul was a gifted chef whose passion for food was matched only by his love for serving others. After graduating as valedictorian from Oklahoma Christian High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, he attended the University of Oklahoma for one year before completing the Coach House Culinary Chef Training Program. Throughout his culinary career, he took great pride in leading several kitchens and was especially honored to be part of the executive chef team at Vast when it received the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award.
For Paul, a good day meant preparing and serving a delicious meal, whether for a banquet room filled with strangers or a not-so-quiet dinner for his friends or family. He delighted in sharing his knowledge of food preparation and culinary techniques, encouraging rather than criticizing, building up rather than tearing down.
Beyond the kitchen, Paul had a deep appreciation for music and enjoyed listening to and playing a wide variety of genres. He was a multi-sport fan, with a particular love for OU and the OKC Thunder, but who could discuss many other sports, teams, and stats. He loved reading about many subjects – history, food, humor, sports – and was especially moved by the writing of author, Rick Bragg. Almost weekly, Paul and his best friend Tyler (since 2nd grade!) played video games, usually resulting in uproarious fits of laughter. And he did love to laugh, most recently enjoying old Carol Burnett Show clips and old interviews on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. And most infuriatingly, he did crossword puzzles in ink.
Paul believed in looking at the world from different perspectives and encouraged others to approach people with kindness and understanding. He will be remembered as a fair and honest man who generously gave of his time, talents, and resources to those around him with nothing expected in return.
Family was at the heart of Paul's life. He cherished his parents, his brother and sister, his grandparents, especially his grandfathers, and treasured time spent with his lunch buddy, Uncle Sonny. He was also a proud member of the Choctaw Nation.
Paul is survived by his loving parents, Charles and Sally of Oklahoma City; his brother, Joseph Langer of Oklahoma City; his sister, Sarah Langer of Midland, Texas; his uncle Virgil M. Harry, III of Oklahoma City; his uncle, aunt, and cousin of Huntingburg, Indiana - Larry Langer, Jr., Martha Friz-Langer and Peter Langer; and cousin, Kyrstan Brantley of St. Louis, Missouri; plus many beloved feline neighborhood companions.
