Matriarch, mother, grandmother, friend, and the head of our family decided that her time on earth was done. Phyllis LaVerne Harrison (Storey) born in Mulvane, Sumner County, KS on August 6, 1923, passed on to be with our lord in Oklahoma City, December 3, 2019. Her final breath came at 8:54pm with family sitting at her bed side. She was an inspiration to all in how a family should be. Her family started as a Storey in Mulvane, Sumner County, Kansas. She was born on a farm near the town to Bennett and Lois Storey (Foudray). She grew up going to grade school in a one room school on the corner of the farm. She went to business school and began her working career at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. She continued her career as a secretary for Kerr McGee Corporation in Oklahoma City. While at Kerr McGee she met Leroy Herb Harrison (March 15, 1923 – January 29, 2017) and soon married on July 4,1959 in Robstown, Texas at the local court house. They were to marry on Bennett’s birthday July 5 but the Justice of the Peace could not do it that day so it was moved to July 4. After the wedding they went deep sea fishing for their honey moon. So right off, the wedding was founded around fishing which both Phyllis and Herb spent many days and nights casting lines. Herb was part of many Oklahoma Bass clubs and did both recreational and tournament fishing. Kerr McGee moved them to Warner, Oklahoma where Phyllis became a housewife, because of a promotion to management for Herb. Phyllis took this job just as serious as working a 9-5. She spent a lot of time with her mother, daughter, and grandson in the kitchen, on the floor playing games, or just what ever needed to happen at that moment for the enjoyment of the family. She was also involved in the local County Extension group. Herb and Phyllis did many things together, like fishing, square dancing, gardening, and rock hounding which took them all over the state and many other states. Phyllis also had a love for painting, where she chose several different canvases. She painted very delicate pictures on china of all sizes and shapes, as well as on canvas in the form of farms, animals, and places she had been or lived. Phyllis had a love for family, both dead and alive. She was the one that the whole larger family turned to for information about who is doing what, or where. She kept up with her history by doing the genealogy on Storey, Foudray, Howard, Horsley, and Harrison families. For those of us who were part of her world we understood that we were her everything and her eyes would light up when we were around. Many days with all of us were spent coloring in the middle of the floor, playing with toys and games that she played with when she was young, or listening to her and grandpa’s old country music. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl D. Horsley of Oklahoma City, Grandson C. Tommy Horsley wife Angela of Bethany, Great Grandsons C. Logan wife Kali of Honey Grove, Texas, Cameron wife Lucy, Chase, and Caleb all of Oklahoma City, and 3 Great-Great grandchildren.
