After graduating from high school in 1948, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He married his high school sweetheart, Marlene, on August 12, 1951, and chose to be stationed in Alaska so she could join him there. He served as a Weapons Maintenance Specialist, achieving the rank of Airman First Class and was known for his exceptional marksmanship.
Following his honorable discharge, Bob and Marlene returned to Enid, where he began working for the telephone company. After moving to Oklahoma City, he began installing Formica countertops in new homes—proudly calling himself a “Formica mechanic.” After retiring in 1986, the couple moved to Lake Eufaula, where Bob spent countless happy days fishing and enjoying family time. They moved back to the Oklahoma City area in 2017.
Bob was known for his ornery streak, quick wit, and love of storytelling. He was a prankster at heart and could always make people laugh with a good joke or one of his colorful tales. He loved to fish and hunt, and his strong Christian faith guided him throughout his life. Bob was active in every church he attended, serving as a leader, elder, and Sunday school teacher—first at Forest Hill Christian Church in Oklahoma City, then at First Christian Church in Eufaula, and most recently at Cherokee Hills Christian Church in Oklahoma City.
In his younger years, Bob was proud to have sung on the Wiley and Gene Show on WKY Radio in Oklahoma City with his twin brother, Bill, and their father.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife and soulmate, Marlene Maxwell; his twin brother, Bill Maxwell; sisters, Leona Hughes and Thelma Becker; his parents; and daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Maxwell.
He is survived by his children, Sherry Myers and husband Monty, Mike Maxwell, Jim Maxwell and wife Melanie, and Robert Maxwell and wife Patti; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Cherokee Hills Christian Church.
