Tommy Gayle (Hamman) Hutchins came into this world on December 22,1938, to Roy Thomas (Pete) Hamman & Dorothy Irene (Buck) Hamman. Tommy departed this earth for her Heavenly home on August 14, 2024 at Timbers Nursing Ctr, Edmond OK. She spent most of her life in Bethany and attended Putnam City Schools. After high school she helped her father with his plumbing business. Tommy was always a daddy’s girl.
Tommy married Doyle Leon McMullin on July 12,1963. On February 16, 1965 they were blessed with a daughter, Shelley Renee (McMullin) Estes. Doyle and Tommy delivered The Daily Oklahoman newspaper for many years, but they grew restless. After some deliberating they finally decided to head West to California and make a new start. They stopped in Clinton Oklahoma to visit family and never left. They had a brand new home built in Arapaho where they lived until 1975 when their marriage fell apart. Tommy and Shelley moved back to Bethany to live with Tommy’s parents.
Tommy had many jobs. After working as a custodian for Putman City Schools she earned her CNA certification and served faithfully at Western Oaks Nursing home, Ranchwood nursing home in Yukon, and finally at Caring Angels Home Health.
James worked as an Oklahoma State Capitol Patrolman, and sometimes Tommy accompanied him. James got Tommy a badge that had his badge number with ½ on the end. That was her pride and joy she showed it to everybody. In April of 2011 she lost the love of her life. She said she’d never marry again, and she didn’t.
At 5 am every morning she would be at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, her bible, and a devotional book. Tommy loved Jesus with all her heart and she helped her neighbors. She also loved to read Harlequin Romance books. Her daughter teased her because she would read the last chapter first. She said that she didn’t like to be in suspense. She loved movies especially musicals and Hallmark Christmas movies.
Tommy is preceded in death by her parents Pete and Dorothy, her sweetheart James, and her brother David and his wife June. She is survived by her daughter, Shelley Estes, 3 grandkids Ethan Estes, Baylee Estes, and Camden Estes, one brother, Merwin Hamman, his wife Lendell and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
