Vesta Mae Stansbury Hallowell, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 16, 2019, in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was born February 28, 1935, in Farmington, Iowa to Robert and Mary Alice Stansbury. She was the ninth of eleven children. Vesta graduated from Farmington High School in 1952. On January 1, 1956, she married Keith Trueblood Hallowell of Mount Pleasant, Iowa (deceased September 13, 2012, after a marriage of 56 years). They lived on the family farm where she was a farm wife growing a large garden, canning, and preserving fruits and vegetables. They were active members of Cedar Creek Friends Church and Salem Friends Church. In 1977, Vesta and her family moved from Iowa to Roswell, New Mexico. She was an active member of Roswell First Church of the Nazarene. They moved back to live in Iowa from 1990 to 2001 and then retired in Bethany, Oklahoma. Vesta worked in three church nurseries, was very competitive at playing cards, and had lifetime friends with whom she played Rook. Vesta and Keith attended Lake Overholser Church of the Nazarene and Council Road Baptist Church. She is survived by her four children: Jay (Amor) Hallowell of Manila, Philippines; Judy (Ed) Roberts of Overland Park, KS; Joyce (Dennis) Williams of Bethany, OK; and Jolene (Dudley) Holloman of Oklahoma City, OK. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Nathan (Megan) Roberts of Roeland Park, KS; Jeremy (Lauren) Roberts of Kansas City, MO; Grace Williams of Oklahoma City, OK; Paige (Tyler) Edgin (who are expecting her first great-grandchild) of Denver, CO; Asher (fiancé Maria) Holloman of Denver, CO; Maggie (Jordan) Babcock of Tulsa, OK; Harper Holloman attending Oklahoma State University; and Abby Williams attending Southern Nazarene University.
