Victoria Agnes Ackley

Victoria Agnes Lusher Ackley was born June 9, 1923 in New York City, NY. She passed away Saturday evening with her family by her side June 18, 2011, after a sudden illness. Vicki had just celebrated her 88th birthday with her family and at a June birthday luncheon with her Deaconess Volunteer friends. Vicki married Ernest H. Ackley on December 12, 1943 in Peekskill, NY. They moved to Syracuse, NY where they had 4 children. In 1963, Ernie was transferred to Oklahoma City and in 1968 Vicki began her service as a Deaconess Hospital volunteer. Vicki was a hospital volunteer for over 40 years and was a past president of the Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary. She also served as a State Auxiliary Leader of the Oklahoma Hospital Association in 1998, meeting with hospital volunteers in almost every county. She introduced into Oklahoma “The Whale Program” which is a child safety seat identification program sponsored by Deaconess Hospital and the Oklahoma Safe Kids Coalition. She will be remembered by her family and large circle of friends for her distinctive laugh, her sense of humor and her kind, loving and giving spirit. She was involved with her church and with the Red Hat Ladies of the Crescent Society. Her many activities included bowling, bunco, traveling and knitting. She is preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Wallace Liddell Lusher; her father, Victor Hugo Lusher and her husband, Ernest Howard Ackley. Vicki is survived by her brother Sid Lusher, her children, Victor Ackley and wife Sarah of Falls Church, VA; Sheri Douglas, David Ackley and wife Joan, and Cindy Ackley, all of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Josh Douglas and wife Andrea, Phillip Douglas, Derek Ackley and Katherine Ackley, her great grandchildren, Caitlynn, Autumn, Emma, Spencer and Sophia Douglas. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 23rd at 10:00 AM at Resurrection Free Methodist Church, 6000 N. MacArthur Blvd. Oklahoma City.
