Viola Faye Gibson

Viola Faye Gibson, age 90, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023. She was born December 25, 1932 in Fairview, Oklahoma to Warren and Gertie Stephens. Viola was a twin and the third oldest of 10 children and took on the role of helping raise her younger siblings. She grew up on a farm where they raised watermelon. She loved taking care of other people, especially children, and ran a daycare out of her home for over 50 years. She married Delmer Gibson on November 11, 1950 and they enjoyed 64 years of love and laughter before his death on February 18, 2015. Viola was always busy and enjoyed trying new things, from laying bricks and helping put on a roof to anything artistic, such as ceramics and sewing. Viola had a beautiful flower garden that she spent countless hours in. She also loved camping with her family where they enjoyed card games, like UNO, and cruising around the lake in their boat. Viola had a strong and unwavering Faith and attended Tulakes Baptist Church for over 40 years. Most of all, Viola loved her family with all of her heart. She took great joy in spoiling her grandchildren and making incredible memories with them. Her sass, sense of humor, and compassion for others will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delmer; brothers, Sherman, Roger, Lloyd, and Vernon; sisters, Lillie, Joyce, Gwenda, and Carolyn; great grandchildren, Destiny and Cecilia; and great-great grandson, Jaden. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Williams and husband Bill, Tammy Davenport, and Gene Gibson and wife Debbie; brother, Larry Stephens and wife Ruth; grandchildren, Carrie (James) Madkins, James (Polly) Williams, Scott (Christy) Williams, Donna (Jeff) Simpson, Camron Williams, Misty Riley, Shaun (Lisa) Davenport, Bill (Amy) Gibson, and Kylie (Ryan) Buckles; 17 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

Viewing will be 5pm-8pm Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Bill Merritt Funeral Service.
