It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary "Marie" Panetta on September 4, 2025, in the comfort of her home. Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 3, 1935, Marie was the beloved wife of the late Pasquale "Pat" Panetta for 39 wonderful years. Pat predeceased her in 1998. Marie was a loving mother to Richard Panetta (Christina), Frances "Sandy" Panetta (Bruce Whiteford), and Kathryn Ardizzone (Robert), and a cherished grandmother to John Panetta (Terry), Therese Panetta Young (Thomas Young), and Lauren (Jonathan Fojas), Andrew, and Matthew Ardizzone. Her legacy lives on through her adored great-grandchildren: Marielle and Charlotte Young and Valerie and Ethan Panetta. Mana Alexandre and Wolf Joseph were a loving addition to her family. Marie was a dear sister to the late Catherine Coiro.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed many passions, from playing tennis with her family, Friday night Mahjong with her friends, and attending many local theater concerts and musicals. She thrived in the company of others socializing with friends and family when her sharp wit would be on full display. For many years, Marie volunteered at the St. Francis Hospital Gift Shop where she volunteered alongside her granddaughter Lauren. But above all, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Family meant the world to Marie—she loved cooking for them, caring for them, and always being there with an open heart whenever they needed her. Marie’s love and devotion to her family were unmatched, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11:15 AM at St. Martin of Tours Church in Bethpage, New York. Interment will follow at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Pat.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marie’s memory to St. Francis Hospital or the American Heart Association.
May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love of her family, forever.
