It is with broken hearts and deep sorrow that we announce that our cherished wife and mother, Veronica Mary McCarthy-Pigott, 59, of Bethpage, was called home to Heaven on October 4th, 2025.
Born in Far Rockaway on April 6, 1966 to Andrew and Christina McCarthy, Veronica was a proud first-generation Irish-American. She, along with her siblings Andrew, Clare, Christina, and Margaret attended St. James Catholic School and later Island Trees High School. A beautiful, fun, and free spirit, in her youth Veronica loved to go fishing in the daytime and dancing at night. Her extroverted nature made her a friend to everyone, but she prized her family above all else. Veronica was a treasured daughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, and great aunt.
Veronica met her beloved husband, Gerald, while working at Central Island Nursing Home in 1986. They were married on August 27th, 1989, and just recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. They had countless adventures in the early days of their marriage while living in Chicago, but ultimately had many happy years raising their family in Bethpage.
More than anything, Veronica was the devoted and adoring mother of Grace and Brendan. She was a rock to her family and served as our pillar, our proudest supporter, and our best friend. Nobody could have modeled her core traits of resilience, faithfulness, and humor better.
All our lives were made richer for knowing her. Though we know that she’s now dancing in Heaven with all who have gone before her, we will always miss Veronica tremendously.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church in Bethpage on Thursday, October 9th, at 10AM. A private cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations in Veronica’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to which she faithfully contributed for over twenty years.
“No goodbyes - I’ll see you later!”
- Veronica McCarthy-Pigott
