Peterson, Alfred E., M.D.Age 93, passed away at home in Chenango Bridge, NY on July 20, 2015. He was born on March 23, 1922, son of the late, Carl E. Peterson and Elin Lindholm Peterson. He was the youngest of 5 children, and was predeceased by brothers, Rudolf, Frederick and Arthur; and sister, Elsa Peterson Ware. On May 27, 1944, he married the love of his life, June Meadows. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for over 60 years, until she passed away in 2007. He is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law; Christie and Larry Wersen; Marti Peterson and David Jones; Amy and Tim Trossen. He was predeceased by his daughter Elin. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Alex and Shiloh Wersen; Michael Jones and Carl and Audrey Trossen. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren, and was always happiest when surrounded by his loved ones. Also left behind is his beloved cat, Lucky, as well as several nieces. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College, and the University of Vermont Medical School. He served as a pilot of a B-17 bomber during WWII. He was always so proud of being a member of the 8th Air Force, 381st bomb group and served in England, flying 35 missions over Germany, Holland and France. After the war, he finished medical school and moved to Binghamton in 1950, with his wife and daughter, Christie, to start his career as a physician. He became one of the original partners, starting the Chenango Bridge Medical Group, where he build his reputation as a dedicated doctor, who gave everything and more to his patients. He practiced until he was 81, as he didn't want his patients to be without a doctor. His patients had grown old with him, and he was determined to stay with them, as their physician. He was also the Chenango Forks High School physician for over 30 years. He was a doctor to the core of his being, but still had more than enough time to give to his family and friends. His family thanks his doctors/friends, Dr. Mullen and Dr. Werner, plus all his amazingly wonderful caregivers - Patricia, JoEllen, Nancy, Janna, Theresa, Pam, Molly, Bridgid and Laurie; plus devoted neighbors and friends, Miriam & Rene - for the ongoing love and care they provided our dad, as his health began to fail. His friends were also made to feel as special as his family, and the words of two of his wonderful friends sum it up the best. Rarely does a man enter your life who teaches you so many things right up to his death. Love, compassion, humility, humor, kindness and love of animals - this list is long, the memories many and the love for him deep. His special quiet manner was so reassuring, non-judgmental, his eyes twinkled and he could laugh till he cried… being around Alfie made you want to be your best person… he lived his life with such grace. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson, NY 13901, entombment will follow in the Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
