

Bernard Francis Lane, (Bernie,) passed away on January 10, 2012 after a brief illness. Born on October 22, 1933, Bernie spent his early years at Rome State School. In 1977, Bernie moved to Auburn, NY and entered the Residential Services Program through the Comprehensive Training Center (Cayuga ARC). In 2007, Bernie moved to the ACHIEVE Riverside Drive IRA in Binghamton, NY to be near his extended family, Nancy and David Constantine and their children Michael and Ashley. Bernie held a love for life and people, and his kind ways and spiritual heart touched the lives of others. Bernie had many friends and was loved by everyone who knew him, including his close friends Beth Foreman, Jon Robson and Guy Caruso. Traveling to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown many times, Bernie loved baseball and was often heard singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game". Bernie also loved basketball and enjoyed watching the Harlem Globetrotters in person. A person of strong faith, Bernie was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Binghamton, NY and Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Auburn, NY and attended religious retreats at the Notre Dame Retreat House in Canandaigua, NY for 15 years. Bernie also attended the ACHIEVE Day Habilitation Program where he loved to socialize with friends and participate in many activities. Funeral services will take place Friday, January 13, 2012 at 5:00PM at Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St, Port Dickinson and Saturday morning, January 14, 2012 at 10:00AM at the Holy Family Church, 85 North Street, Auburn, NY 13021. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Auburn, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home, Friday from 3-5PM. Special recognition and appreciation are extended to the ACHIEVE Residential and Nursing Staff at the Riverside Drive IRA for their love, care and support of Bernie. A special thank you is extended as well to Lourdes Hospice and Eric Yetter, Guardianship Coordinator.
