It is with great sadness that the family of Charles A. Spence, 86, announces his passing on Monday, August 16, 2021, at Wilson Hospital. He was pedeceased by his parents Charles L. and Arlene Spence, brother Jefry Spence and sister Jill Shrauger. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Janet Spence; his sons Mark (Sue) Spence, Charles Randy (Sandy) Spence and Ken (Fran) Spence and his daughter Lisa Spence; grandchildren J.R., Danny, Brian, Alyssa, Justin and Ryan; great grandchildren Scott, Izabella, Kamryn, Autumn, Harper and Theresa; step grandchildren Sarah, Thomas, Alexis and Grace; several nieces nephews and cousins and a special family friend Mark Bennett.
Charles served in the United States Navel Reserves and was a retired employee of IBM. He was a member of the Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church, the Grange, SAR, The Mayflower Society, Broome Historical Society and the Hillcrest American Legion Post 1194. He was a former volunteer firefighter for Vestal Center and was a volunteer ski instructor for the Greek Peek Adaptive Skiing Program for many years. He loved history, genealogy and nature. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family especially his beloved grandchildren. We will miss all of his stories about him growing up and his family history.
A Private Celebration of Charles’ life will be held at the convenience of the family.
