Claire Fleming West, daughter of James and Ruth Fleming of Scranton, Pa was born October 25, 1929, passed away Friday, January 11th at JGJ Nursing Home in Johnson City at the age of 89. She is predeceased by her husband Calvin West and daughter Carolyn, brothers Joseph Paul Fleming, Richard Fleming and Robert Fleming, and sisters Mary Elizabeth Larabee, Joan Divine, and Eileen Roberge. She is
survived by her sister Kathleen Skwish, sisters-in-law Amelia Fleming, Jeanne Fleming, and brother-in-law Alfred Roberge. Also, surviving children are Jeanne Seibert and her husband Steve, Mark West, Leslie Leith and her husband Robert, Lawrence West and his wife Brenda, and Rodney and Sharon Moore, adopted parents to Carolyn’s children. Claire has 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, great great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Claire was an Executive Secretary for many years working for Singer-Link and before that held other secretarial positions. She volunteered at Lourde’s Hospital and was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and its Rebecca Circle in Binghamton. She loved reading intrigue novels, participating in Trivia, and was a challenging competitor at cards and board games. Claire was amazingly lucky at Tioga Downs, rarely coming back with less than what she came with. She had close dear friends at United Methodist Homes’ Hilltop Campus in Johnson City, was a loving wife and mother and her fiery and fun-loving spirit will be missed by many.
