

Dorothy J. Hammond, 95, died peacefully as she slept at Wilson Memorial Hospital on Sunday, January 11, 2015. She was born in Summit, NJ on December 3, 1919 to the late Rudolph M. and Florence M. Havell. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Vincent G. Hammond, M.D., and is survived by two daughters, Carolyn A. White of Apopka, FL and Dr. Janice H. Hammond of Belmont, MA, as well as two grandchildren and many other dear family members and friends. Dorothy graduated from the Scudder School for Girls in New York, NY, and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Chenango Bridge, the Civic Club of Binghamton, and the Monday Afternoon Club. She was an Auxiliary member of the Volunteers of Binghamton General Hospital and the Broome County Medical Society. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, and had many passions in life, including reading, attending Shrine events with her husband, and watching football (especially Michigan State and the New England Patriots). A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 17. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to The Fenton Free Library, 1062 Chenango St., Binghamton, NY 13901.
