Jean C. Russell of Greenville, South Carolina, formerly of Binghamton, New York, 96, went to be with her Lord peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Born in Sayville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Harold C. and Jessie F. Chapman. She was also predeceased by her brother Donald C. (Joan) Chapman. Survivors include daughter Valerie McAnulty; four granddaughters, Jennifer McAnulty, Amber (John) Koche, Cynthia (Josh) Holliman, Heather McAnulty; five great-grandchildren and nephew Don Chapman.
During her years in New York, Jean worked as an administrative secretary for the Susquehanna Valley school district, and more notably as an ophthalmic assistant to Drs. Landers and Gilroy until 1979. After moving to South Carolina to be closer to family, she worked at Bob Jones University as secretary to the hospital administrator at Barge Memorial Hospital in addition to filing medical insurance claims for faculty and staff until her retirement in 1994. She was admired for her organizational skills, her attention to detail, and her reliability, and loved for her sense of humor and her unwavering trust in the goodness and faithfulness of her God. During those years, she endeared herself to her co-workers, and in particular to several of her student workers, Janna, Mark, Bob, and Gail, and friends Kathy, John, and Theresa, who have helped care for her during her later years, truly a labor of love. Jean was a faithful member of Fellowship Greenville for over forty years, present at services until she was no longer physically capable to attend.
A graveside service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Windsor, New York, in the spring.
