Joanne is survived by sixteen cherished nieces and nephews, as well as their families, all of whom she loved dearly.
Joanne is also survived by her hairdresser Donna Marusich who Mom considered a third daughter as well as Phyllis Roehm, her lifelong friend.
The week after Joanne graduated from high school, she started working as a secretary for the law firm of Meagher, Eisenhart and Madigan. She later took a civil service test and accepted a position at the NYS Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences, now known as SUNY Broome. Later in life Joanne worked as a Unit Secretary at Lourdes Hospital. She also volunteered as a poll worker on Election Day for several years.
Joanne's greatest accomplishment was raising her four children. She was a loving and devoted mother, and she was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a kind, gentle and caring person. She enjoyed hosting extended family gatherings, especially Christmas Eve. Joanne came from a loving family. She was devoted to her sister, two brothers, and their families. She was happiest when we were all together celebrating the holidays or special occasions.
Some of the things we will remember most about our Mom were her ability to make every holiday special, her sage advice at the times we needed it most,
and her acceptance of people for who they were, she did not judge.
The family wants to extend a special thank you to the wonderful and caring doctors, nurses and nursing assistants at UHS who compassionately cared for our Mom during the last two months of her life. We are especially grateful to our Uncle Marty for looking out for Mom during these past two years, and to Bryan Brown who went above and beyond to help Mom out over the years in her apartment.
A private burial will be held for immediate family. A Memorial service will be postponed until the Spring 2022 when we can all get together safely to celebrate Joanne’s life and share special memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joanne's memory to CHOW. (The Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse network of food pantries located in Broome County).
