Larry R. Blake, of Binghamton, formerly of Oneonta, NY, passed on to join his wife Dawn on January 21, 2022. He is survived by his 3 children, daughter Kelly Blake and sons David and Stephanie Blake, and J and Theresa Blake, his 5 grandchildren Jerrod, Sheridan, Larry, David Jr, and Eve.
He worked as an Electrical Engineer at Link Aviation and its follow-on companies, working on NASA’s Gemini and Apollo programs as well as Apache and Blackhawk helicopter simulators for the US military. He was very proud of his part in the race to the moon. He was dedicated to helping others as an Elder and Church Treasurer at the First Church of Christ in Kattelville NY. He also held the honorary title of “Weather Rock” for Boy Scout Troop 152.
Larry’s wife of 58 years, who he lovingly called “his boss”, preceded him in May 2018. Alzheimer’s saved him from remembering her leaving, but he continued to look for her until Covid finally stopped his search. Dawn and Larry had a special love and were an unstoppable team. When Dawn’s physical health started to decline, she was able to count on Larry’s legs. He was able to rely on her to take over all the decisions he was unable to make. It was a partnership of love and support, and they truly were an inspiration.
The family will receive friends at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 4-5pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s association. https://act.alz.org/site/TR/Events/Tributes-AlzheimersChampions?pxfid=725301&fr_id=1060&pg=fund
