Marilyn F. Gardner

Marilyn Gardner, 91,was born in the small town of Barnard, Vermont. Marilyn spent the latter years of her life in Chenango Forks, NY in her stone cottage on the river. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilbur M. and Muriel E. (Bowes) Lucia; her son, Douglas Gardner; siblings, Beatrice (Lucia) Fitch, Carl Lucia and Helen (Lucia) Tuckerman and Claude Lucia. Marilyn is survived by her son, David (Elinor) Gardner; daughter, Pamela Johnson; daughters-in-law, Laurie Elliott and Joanie Gardner; nine grandchildren, Brandy Gardner, Danielle Gardner, Adam Gardner, Dennis (Sabrina) Gardner, Drew (Chris) Gardner, Bobby Story, Vanessa (Greg) Vaverchak, Christopher (Heather) Strader and Jack (Mindy) Teetor; 11 great grandchildren, Dylan Gardner, Kira Gardner, Keenan Glover, Kyair Summers, Gavin Gardner, Easton Gardner, Natalie Vaverchak, Lydia Vaverchak, Hailey Teetor, Jenna Teetor and Henry Teetor; her beloved cat, Vallie; as well as loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Marilyn was a dedicated naturalist and environmental advocate. She was best known for her exceptional talent as a gardener and won several ribbons at the fair for her floral pieces. She was a member of the Greene garden club. Those who were fortunate to know her enjoyed her style for design, her crafts, and her unique perspective on celebrating the simple pleasures of live. She was an avid quilter, read, practiced yoga, and enjoyed braiding wool rugs. She was best remembered for the memories she shared on the river, rowing and swimming with her family and her dog, King. Marilyn passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2021. We invite you to join us to celebrate her life and share your stories. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM in the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango Street, Port Dickinson. Memorial services will immediately follow at 3:00 PM. Please kindly consider donations to the Zion Episcopal Church in Greene, NY to help continue the community outreach programs she supported there.

Pam & Dave, please accept my condolences for the loss of your Mom. I always enjoyed coming to her lovely cottage on the river and soaking in all her flowers and gardens. I still have some of her ornamental grasses growing here, that she gave your Aunt Alice.
