Sara Jane Morgan, 79, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on February 28, 2018. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Bill Morgan, her parents, Wilfred and Arlene Ruland and brothers Preston and Burnett Ruland of Southampton, NY. Sara is survived by her loving daughters: Susan Morgan (David Eldred) Barbara Morgan (Glen Yager) and Martha Morgan. Her precious grandson, Morgan Thomas Yager, was the light of her life in her early retirement years and beyond. Her “Pupper” Wesley, guided her every step to keep her safe. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Fred Morgan of Elmira, NY, sisters-in-law Mary Morgan and Elizabeth DeVries of Elmira, NY, Louise Ruland of Mattituck, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sara was a graduate of Elmira College with an MS in Education. She was an elementary school teacher and retired from the Binghamton City School District in 1995. Not only did she help to shape and educate students in Binghamton, she was a devoted member of NEA NY and represented her peers to negotiate on contracts. Alongside her friends, John, Mary, Rosalie and Carol, NEA members benefit today from their work, performed many years ago. Sara represented the Binghamton Teachers Association on the national level at many NEA Conventions to influence legislation and promote the cause of quality public education.
Never at a loss to find another hour in the day, Sara sought out membership in organizations to satisfy her desire to contribute to her community. She was intrigued with her genealogy which led to membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Tuscarora Chapter. Together, Bill and Sara enjoyed the companionship and activities of the Welsh Society. The Widows Group helped fill the void when she lost Bill. She sought intellectual stimulation through the Lyceum at SUNY Binghamton which enriched her life with new friends, travel, music and the arts. First and foremost, Sara was a teacher.
The family wishes to thank Lourdes Hospice, particularly Rachael, Patti and Sarah. We also thank her special companions: Rhonda, Kaylee, Norma and Glen Yager.
