Susan Shannon Kendrot (née Prendergast) died peacefully at home on June 24th, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born September 21st, 1942 in Astoria, NY, attended the Rhode Island School of Design, where she met her husband Richard Kendrot, an architect, and then moved to the Binghamton area where they resided for many years.
Susan was a devoted wife and mother, a talented artist and dedicated public school teacher. She spent her career as an art teacher in Windsor and Binghamton, instilling her love of art in countless students. Once she retired from teaching, Susan created powerful and impactful art that she displayed at Cooperative Gallery 123 in Binghamton, and in art shows throughout the U.S. Susan was well known for her sense of humor and bright, sunny personality, a woman who never said an unkind word of anyone; yet her art often represented dark and brooding themes. Susan believed that this duality existed in all people and liked to quip that her husband was thankful that she had art to express her darker side.
Susan is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard Kendrot, her son Stephen Richard Kendrot and his wife Nina Fascione, her daughter Elise Agnes Kendrot and her husband Eric Gorder, her grandchildren Ernie Gorder and Alexandra Fascione, and her sister Elise Agnes Raschke.
Please join us in celebrating Susan’s life on June 30th from 4-7 pm at Wm. R. Chase and Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson, NY.
