Alan Robert Seigel passed away August 24th, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in 1959, he was a graduate of Indian Springs School and the University of Alabama, and was Vice President of Dale’s Seasonings, Inc., working alongside his cousin Michael Levine and his Aunt Estelle Silverstein for the past thirty years. When Alan was in high school and the sauce business was new, he helped his Aunt Estelle, label, pack and deliver cases to local grocers.
Alan is survived by his beloved partner Rhonda Smith, his mother Ferne Rotenstreich Seigel, brother Lester Seigel (Jane) and sister Jennifer Kanter (Drew), nephews Kerry McInerney (Jenny), Daniel Seigel (Jessie Mayne), Will Kanter and Ben Kanter, and niece, Amy Dillard (Clint), along with many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, and other extended family. He was predeceased by his father Jerry Seigel just three months ago. Alan dearly loved Rhonda, his family and the ‘steak sauce’ business.
His life-long passion was the game of golf and the welfare of Pine Tree Country Club, where he was President at the time of his death. During his term there, Pine Tree saw its greatest growth in membership. He was a champion on the course ‘at the Tree’ and elsewhere across the Southeast, garnering a host of club championships and tournament wins for over a generation. Alan loved a weekend of golf with friends, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the music of the classic vinyl rockers. A quietly generous and compassionate person, with a dry and quick wit, Alan was adored by his family and many friends.
The family wishes to thank dear care givers Anthony Roberson and Debra Pearson.
Following a graveside service for family there will be a memorial service to which all are invited at Temple Emanu-El, 2100 Highland Avenue South, on Monday, August 28 at 11 AM, with a shiva luncheon following in Abroms Hall. Memorials may be made to the Temple Emanu-El Endowment Fund, or a charity of your choice.
