

Alice Claire Lauber, age 93, died peacefully surrounded by her children, Monday, August 12th, 2024, following a brief illness. Alice Claire was born in Palestine, Texas, the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Meehan and Vada Voce Kelley Meehan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Captain Ronald Matthias Lauber of 49 years, and sister Lois McCullar. She is survived by her sister; Lucille Cook of White House, Texas and her children; Lorraine Alice Farish (Sidney); Phyllis Claire Lehew (Dennis); Anthony Joseph Lauber; Vincent Karl Lauber; Marilyn Jean Lauber; Joseph Edward Lauber; Dominic John Lauber; Nicholas Peter Lauber; Judith Anne Katz; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; the Reverend Wilfred Emeh of Cameroon, Africa – by spiritual adoption; and many nieces and nephews. She graduated with honors from Henrietta King High School in Kingsville, Texas and Texas A&I University from the college of Industrial Arts and Engineering. At Texas A&I, she was president of the Delta Gamma Sorority, chairman of the Inter-Sorority Council, a member of the Newman and Industrial Arts and Engineering clubs. In 1950 and 1951, she was crowned a Lantana Lady at homecoming and was named to the Who’s Who of Students in American Universities and Colleges. She was an accomplished dancer and majorette and played clarinet, baritone saxophone and the steel guitar. After college, she began a career in the oil and gas industry with the Humboldt Oil Company in the King Ranch facility working on multiple oil and gas construction projects in the oil and gas engineering department, and later moved to the Houston corporate office working on even larger projects. In 1956, she left her career and married the love of her life to embark on what she called the greatest adventure of her lifetime. She met her new vocation with joy and enthusiasm dedicating the next 70 years of her life to God, the Holy Catholic Church, and her family. She was a prayerful and observant Christian, a faithful and loving wife and a gracious and tender mother. She always fought for what she believed and rooted for the underdog continually facing life’s challenges with patient resignation and Christian fortitude. She gave generously to the Catholic Church, numerous Catholic charities, the Texas and American Right to Life as well as the people of Cameroon, Africa. Alice Claire was always a proud and independent woman. She will be remembered for her vast intellect, undying faith and loyalty to all that knew her, but most of all she will be remembered for her immense love for her family. She considered her family and her faith the greatest accomplishments of her life. She was the center of our world and the rudder of our ship.
Funeral service will be held at The Cathedral of Saint Paul in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday, August 16th, 2024. Visitation and recitation of the Holy Rosary begins at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 AM, 2120 3rd Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203.
A private burial service will be held Monday, August 19th, 2024, at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Missions Arise Foundation at www.missionsarise.org which supports poor villages and communities in the Diocese of Kumba, Cameroon.
