Merle went to heaven peacefully in her sleep on March 21, 2021. She was born in Wylam, Alabama on January 18,1924 to Geanie McLellan Smith and Dave Smith. So sorry for your loss! Praying that the God of all comfort will comfort your hearts, and give you peace 🙏
I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to meet Ms. Hendon. I will always remember the love and kindness shown by her, and her daughter, Sherry, at a surprise barbeque dinner, from her son, Colonel Hendon.

We enjoyed getting to know Merle and always looked forward to spending time with her and her family. She was a delight, and her sense of humor lit up the room. We thank God for Merle and will keep Sherry and her brothers in our hearts and prayers.

I wonder if our parents knew each other. Mine have been at Oakland many years waiting for Jesus. We’re closer to Heaven than we have ever been. Reminds me of that old gospel song “It’s just about home time”.
