
Grammas, Demetra T (“Tula”) passed away quietly at her home, surrounded by all who loved her the most, after a prolonged illness on January 27, 2018. She was 88 years old. Affectionately known as “Tula,” she was born on October 20, 1929, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Phillip and Maria Triantos. She lived in Birmingham her entire life where she graduated from Ramsay High School. On January 29, 1950, she married Alexander P. Grammas, her beloved husband to whom she was married for 68 wonderful years. Tula will be remembered for her compassion to others, her love of family, and her unique gift of conversation. She devoted her time to her husband, children, extended family and most especially to her eleven grandchildren. She loved playing cards, cooking, and nurturing her family. She was a life long member of Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Maria Triantos and her loving brother Arthur (“Nisi”) Triantos. She is survived by her husband Alex Grammas, her daughters Lynn G. Denton (Neely), Mary G. Leara (Steve), and Alexis Grammas, her son, Peter A. Grammas, her sister Adrianne (“Nina”) Piliouras, her grandchildren Margaret Ann Denton, Alex Denton, Angela Denton, Paul Leara, Demi Leara, Johnny Leara, Pete White, Charles White, Alexandra White, Mary Margaret Grammas, and Virginia Grammas, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, January 29, from 5 until 7 PM at Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral followed by a brief Triasgion service at 7PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 30 at 11 AM at the Cathedral, Father Paul Costopoulos celebrant. A meal is offered by the family in the Fr. Emmanuel Vasilakis Banquet Hall following the internment. The family requests no flowers.
