

Tuesday, January 31 st , 2023. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 24th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Briarwood Presbyterian Church (PCA) Chapel. Deedy is preceded in death by her parents, Harris “Tommy” Thompson and Ernestine Thompson. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Daniel McFarland Sherling II; sons, Daniel McFarland Sherling III, Lee Richardson Sherling; daughter, Denise Elaine (Lainey) Sherling; sisters, Lynda Strickland (Lynn), Lisa Venable (Charlie) along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Deedy was a lifelong resident of Mountain Brook and was in the first graduating class of Mountain Brook High School. She enjoyed performing in the Birmingham Little Theater and went on to study fashion design in Atlanta and modeled. Later, she was a flight attendant for United Airlines traveling coast to coast. She participated in the Miss Alabama Pageant in which she finished as first runner-up. Deedy was an avid tennis fan and player excelling in doubles competition. She was very creative in making jewelry using a wide variety of semi-precious stones.She will be remembered in her community for her dazzling floral arrangements that have decorated an array of events for over 25 years. Her mailbox floral creations could be seen all over Birmingham during the holidays. She was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church (PCA) where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Briarwood Flower Guild. Next to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ she was devoted to her husband Dan and their three children. Her family and many friends were her greatest joy.
