A life-long resident of Birmingham, Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her parents, Gabriel Lee Hayden and Alice Aileen Pridgen; by her husbands, John Dunklin Maura and Walter Clayton McCoy MD; and by her son, John Dunklin Maura Jr.Mrs. McCoy was survived by her daughter Anne Hayden Maura of Mountain Brook, AL; son, Gregory Lee Maura (Kerry) of Glendale, AZ; brother, Gabriel Lee Hayden Jr. (Mona) of Fairhope, AL; granddaughters Sarah Robert Mann (Ryan) of Plano, TX and Brooke Anne Maura (Merv Bailey) of Guadalajara, Mexico; and twin great-grandchildren Carter and Lyla Mann, and Jack Mervin and Georgia Gray Bailey. She also left many nieces and nephews and many cherished loving friends, neighbors and bridge buddies.
She graduated from Ramsey High School, class of 1939 and attended Howard College (now Samford University).
Mrs. McCoy was a member of the Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Women's Committee of the Alabama Symphony, the Alabama Opera Guild, Birmingham Music Club, Alabama Historical Society and the Audubon Society. She was a long-standing supporter of St. Vincent's Foundation, the Episcopal Foundation, UAB, Birmingham-Southern College and Tulane University. She was a devoted member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
She will be remembered by those who knew her as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother who had a great sense of fun-loving humor and a contagious laugh.
Her joy in life was her wonderful family, her loving friends, her faith and her church. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 3736 Montrose Rd, Mountain Brook, AL 35213 on Monday, July 22, 2019 at 11:00 am with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church or St. Vincent's Foundation.
