Edward Lawrence Krys

Edward Lawrence Krys, age 89, of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Edward was born April 19, 1932. Eddie was born in Bronx, New York to Goldie and Jack Krys. He had an older brother Albert who passed away in 2000. Eddie and his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He worked as a machine operator for Lock- heed Martin. He entered the United States Army in 1952 and served until 1954. While taking a trip to Birmingham, Alabama he met Merlyn Shirley Wilson. They married and he took over running the family’s scrap and metal business for 36 years. Eddie was an exalted ruler of Mountain Brook Elks Lodge and a 32 Degree Mason. He was the past President of the Jack-O-Hearts Dance Club. A member of Lakeshore Foundation, a member of New Horizons at UAB, a congregant at Temple Beth-El since 1957 and a Docent at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to develop The Children’s Story, which was a manual of children’s drawings from the Nazi Ghetto Camp in Terezin. Merlyn, unfortunately passed away in 1993, he then met Rita G. Maisel who became his traveling com- panion for 17 years until she passed away. Eddie is survived by his three children, Ms. Michelle Cohen, Dr. Alan Krys, Mrs. Penny Abrams, his five grandchildren, Jeremy, Andrew, Michael, Valerie, Meier and his great-grandson Jax. Eddie will be buried in Elmwood Cemetery next to his wife Merlyn at 12:00 PM on Thursday, April 21, 2022, via Johns-Ridout’s Southside.
