

Elizabeth Benners Marbury (‘Betsy’), 89, of Mountain Brook, AL passed away on May 15, 2021. Betsy was born in Birmingham, AL , and was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Thomas Hatch Benners Jr., and was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, David Hatton Marbury III; her parents, her sister, Allene Benners Martin, and her son, William Brevard Marbury who died in infancy.
Throughout her life she was involved in many organizations including the Linly Hefflin Unit, Red Mountain Garden Club, Cadmean Circle, and Grapevine Garden Club. She served as a board member of Birmingham University School, a regent for Historic Kenmore in Fredericksburg, VA, and a Deaconess and Elder, and lifelong member of Independent Presbyterian Church. She was also a lifelong member of Mountain Brook and Birmingham Country Clubs.
Betsy had a passion for enjoying everything in her life to the fullest. She loved playing golf, traveling, fishing, Alabama Football, the New York Yankees, and being with her family and friends. She had a contagious laugh and smile, and never met a stranger.
She is survived by her sister, Margaret Benners Shaw, her children – David Hatton Marbury IV (Nancy), Thomas Hatch Benners Marbury Sr. (Cindy), and John Collier Marbury (Sharon). Her grandchildren – Elizabeth Bradshaw Marbury, David Hatton Marbury V (Laura), Hillary Marbury Parkins (Brad), Mamie Collier Marbury, Thomas Hatch Benners Marbury Jr., and David Allen Marbury and two great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery on Tuesday, May 18 at 11:00 AM, and in lieu of flowers, requests memorial donations to be made to Independent Presbyterian Church (3100 Highland Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35205, ipc-usa.org) or Linly Hefflin Unit (13 Office Park Cir, Mountain Brook, AL 35223
