She was born as Elizabeth Wayne Fortenberry on August 2, 1926 in Columbia, Mississippi to Mr. and Mrs. Hope Calvin Fortenberry. Elizabeth was the last surviving child of their eleven children including her twin sister, Frances. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1945 and worked for most of her career at T.C. Griffith Insurance. She met her first husband, W.T. Kimbrough, who preceded her in death. In June of 2000 she was remarried to Leo Von Pingel. Together they lived in Jackson, Mississippi until they moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 2014 to be near family.
She is survived by her husband, Leo Von Pingel, his two children, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Rd, Pelham, AL 35124, followed directly by funeral services at 2:00 pm. Burial and graveside service will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Mississippi on Monday April 1st at 1:00 P.M.
