Dr. Fred J. Biasini, 69, died suddenly on September 23, 2020. After receiving his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Alabama, he served for nearly 40 years at UAB’s Civitan-Sparks Clinics and the Department of Psychology, He served as a Director of the UAB Early Head Start for over 20 years, and multiple leadership roles, including Director of the UAB Lifespan Developmental Psychology Doctoral Program for 10 years. Dr. Biasini was a dedicated teacher and mentor, educating professionals from a variety of disciplines in the areas of human development and developmental disabilities. By training so many professionals, his impact on the lives of families in Alabama and the nation is immeasurable.
Despite a remarkably full career, nothing was more important to him than his beloved family, to whom he was devoted, and who loved him abundantly in return.
Fred Biasini was born in Charleroi, PA to Tristian Manfred (Fred) Biasini and Josephine Petix Biasini. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jan Walden Biasini, children Devin (Austin) Webb, Nick (Rachelle) Biasini, Joanna (Thomas) Crawford, grandchildren Olivia and Flynn Webb, Emma Kate and Laney Biasini, and Gray and Rosie Crawford, sister Patrice (Jim) Datovech, niece Lisa (Mark) Singleton, nephews Matthew Datovech, great nephews Tyler and Tristian Singleton, friends Dr. Dale Wisely and Marilyn Wisely, Sarah (John) Houser, Angela (Johnnie Chamberlin) Wisely, and Claire Wisely.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 28 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church in Birmingham and livestreamed at www.sfxbirmingham.com/Biasini-memorial.
To honor Dr. Biasini’s legacy, the UAB Department of Psychology established the Fred J. Biasini Award in Developmental Disabilities memorial fund, which will support trainees conducting research and service in developmental disabilities.
