Hugh L. Duncan Jr.

DUNCAN, JR., HUGH LAVERNE Hugh Laverne Duncan, Jr. was born on November 21, 1927 and passed away at home January 6, 2011. He was the youngest of four children, born to Hugh Laverne Duncan, Sr. and Lula Mae Helm Duncan. Hugh served in the Navy during WWII. Afterward, He married Eunice Yvonne Brown in 1951;and together they had four children(Ann, John, Carol, and Albert)with a full life together lasting over 59 years. He served as a faithful member of East Lake United Methodist Church, the Church Choir, the Friendship Sunday School Class, Eastern Area Christian Ministries, the East Lake Lions Club, and the Allegro Music Club. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, their children and spouses, Ann Barber (R.L.), John Duncan (Dian),Carol Moore (Tad), and Albert Duncan; grandchildren Amanda Sorrell Bond, Justin Baumann, and Jacob Baumann; and great grandson, Niles Bond. Hugh also leaves behind his loving sister, Martha Mason, and a niece and nephews, Mary Mason, Chuck Hagaman, David Hagaman, Duncan Lee, and Bobby Lee. The family would like to express their appreciation to Mussierene Mitchell, and Hellen Jepkorir, of "Always There" for their loving care during these last several months. The family is also thankful for the outstanding nursing care provided by the attentive and skillful staff of Odyssey Health Care. A special "Thank You" to Ervin Williamson, Linda Smith, and Brenda Gray of Odyssey, who made Hugh's last days comfortable and peaceful. In lieu of flowers the family request that any donations in Hugh's memory may be made to East Lake United Methodist Church, 7753 1st Ave South, Birmingham, AL 35206. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the church beginning at 1:00PM with visitation in the Church Parlor from 12-1:00PM. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
