OBITUARY

Jacquelyn Wedgworth Dearman

Jackie was born December 23, 2025 to the late Charles Waters Wedgworth and Estelle Epperson Wedgworth and grew up in Akron, Alabama. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia before transferring to the University of Alabama when she was a Junior. She joined Chi Omega sorority and was elected to the Homecoming Court. She roomed for a semester with Nell (Harper) Lee. She left Alabama before graduating to marry Andrew Dearman who graduated from the United States Naval Academy and moved with him to various locations while he was on active duty.

When Andrew departed the Navy, they moved back to Akron and became partners with Jackie’s parents in the Wedgworth Cotton Company. Later, Jackie returned to the University of Alabama and obtained her bachelors and masters degrees in education and served in the Hale County School system in various capacities, including Title 1 Supervisor.

Andrew and Jackie later moved to Tuscaloosa where they lived until December 2016 when Andrew passed away at 94. Jackie moved to Kirkwood by the River in Birmingham due to her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Jackie is survived by her daughter, Donna Dearman Smith and her husband Julian, their son, Houston Smith and his wife Stephanie and their five children, Isabel, Jude, Davis, Patterson and Waters; her son, Andy Dearman, Mary Love Dearman, their children Bentley Dearman Labriola and her husband Nick, and their children Charlie and Blake and their son Drew Dearman.

Jackie passed away on March 21, 2020. Family services will be held.
