

James Timothy Coyle (“Tim”), 67, of Birmingham, AL passed away February 25, 2020. Son of the late Julia Bledsoe Coyle and Daniel J. Coyle Sr., he was born on February 9, 1953 in Birmingham, AL. Tim attended Glen A. Wilson High School in Hacienda Heights, CA, graduating in 1971. He played football for UCLA before transferring to Florida State University in 1974 where he pursued a degree in Social Studies Education and taught high school. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from FSU in 1976 and married the love of his life in 1977. He attended Cumberland School of Law and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1985. In 1989, he joined Burr & Forman specializing in healthcare law. In 1992, he was admitted to practice criminal law in Federal Court for the Northern District of Alabama as a public defender where he practiced until he retired in 2013. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dan J. Coyle, Jr. and sister-in-law Lillian Coyle. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debi; daughter Maria Coyle; grandson James Coyle Martin; nephews Daniel Coyle and Christopher Coyle; and niece Gayle Miller. Please join us for a celebration of Tim’s life on Friday, February 28th. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Parlor (Birmingham), followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Tim had a fantastic sense of humor that delighted his friends and family, a passion for playing and recording music, and he was an animal advocate and rescuer who saved many lives throughout his years. He will be remembered always as a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and an incredibly kind man who loved his girls and grandson fiercely.
