Chris and Tom, if you're reading this, do you remember your sweet mother taking us to see The King and I when we were children?  That was the first movie I ever remember seeing.  She was making memories then and didn't realize it.  She and Uncle Denny never missed an opportunity to bring you and Tom, and Deni Girl, to visit us.  Those happy memories are forever in my heart.  Where did the time go?  I loved Aunt "Jillo" as you know, and I love y'all too.  My thoughts are with you now, and always.  Love, Jan

P.S.  Aunt Jillo was the only person who called me Jan.  If the phone ever rang and someone said, "Jan????," I knew immediately who it was.

PS:  I have to add that Aunt Lanky and my mother Marie were the two strong women in my life who  helped me so much with raising my children as a single mother.  They gave me good advice and helped in so many ways.  I appreciate that Aunt Lanky never gave up on anybody....she would keep on talking and praying and things would work out. I know she and Uncle Denny(Pappy) are dancing in the kitchen and giving each other hugs and kisses. If you want to have a Lanky Day, cook a really good meal, don't forget desserts,invite friends and family to your table, and afterwards get out the board games.  I think this was one of her favorite things to do. Love is all there is.

Love you Aunt Lanky!!  I know you will not be resting in peace but re-arranging heaven!  I know how much you loved baseball, and Uncle Denny wouldn't sit next to you while watching a game, as he said you would beat him up with your excitement and yells!

Sweet lady!  I loved the few opportunities I had to visit with her.  Her love for her family was very evident:)

i remember ms. pete as a very funny and wonderful nurse when i first started working at childrens 37 yrs ago. loved her. my prayers are with her family.

I dearly loved my Aunt Lanky.  She always had a wonderful story to tell and I was amazed by her energy and vitality.  She always kept up with her nephews and nieces with a phone call every few months which was so admirable and loving.  I looked forward to our conversations.  I will miss her.

Oh my Lanky! The world is less without you in it: less joyful, less feisty, less fiercely loving. You gave me a home and a family in Alabama. Introduced me to cornbread in buttermilk and the Braves - and possessed more energy in your 80s than I have ever had in my whole life put together. I weep for myself, and your family, and the J-birds. But I'm so happy for you! You get to be with Jesus and Denny and you don't have pain any more! Thank you for loving me and making me part of your family and for the nights we spent putting puzzles together. I love you!

Lanky was so loved at Lakeshore Foundation where she faithfully participated in water class!  She will be missed so very much!  Our sympathy to the family, Lanky was a beautiful and wonderful woman!

Heartfelt sympathy to the Petras family and the extended Third Presbyterian Church family.  Lanky was a dear friend to our grandparents and GranMartin Coker, as well as "the Vaughn boys".  Peace of the Living Christ to all.

How I admired Ms. Petras when I first started working at Children's as a young nurse.  I wanted to be just like her, she was so kind and a great mentor.  She will forever be a part of the history of Children's of Alabama.

I will never forget the energy and love of this wonderful person. I count it an honor to have been one of her "other" children. Her unwavering service to God was a challenge for us all.

My girls, Lindsey, and I will always remember Aunt Lanky through her beautiful jewelry that she made from church bulletins.  It reminds us of stain glass inside of a church and represented her personality perfectly - full of color, beauty, and happiness.  You will be missed.

Iam very sorry for the loss of Lanky. She was always a Wonderful person to everyone and my Mom's BEST Friend!  Terry Estell

I have fond memories of working with Mrs. Petras at Children's Hospital. She was very kind and an excellent nurse with a great sense of humor. Your family is in my prayers.

There are many  pediatricians all over the country who remember Jewel Petras as a superb nurse and an integral part of their training. I certainly am included in that group.
