OBITUARY

Julia Ann Smith

September 22, 1967October 26, 2019

On Saturday, October 26, 2019, loving mother, partner, friend, and nurse, Julie Smith passed away peacefully at home. She was born on September 22, 1967 in San Diego to parents, Joseph and Joanne Smith, who precede her in death.

Julie remained in California after graduating from Patrick Henry High School, earning a BS in Nursing and a Masters of Science in Nursing, both from San Diego State, and a PhD in Nursing from University of San Diego. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society for nursing students, and remained passionate about nursing throughout her professional life. She most recently served as the Senior VP of Student Success at HotChalk, where she had worked for the past seven years. Before that, she worked at Brookline College as the Dean of Nursing and University of Phoenix, where she worked as the Director of Academic Affairs. Earlier in her career, she worked at Sweetwater Union High School District in California, where she started as a school nurse and worked her way up to serve as a Director of School Nursing.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Matt and Katy Newton, and her daughter, Sydney Amerian-Smith; her partner, Angie Carson; her niece and nephews, Ashley Capehart, Addison Smith, and Andrew Smith, and her brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Robin Smith. Julie was surrounded by many wonderful people, too great in number to name, and loved her friends, colleagues and family dearly.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 9th at John’s-Ridout’s from 2 to 3pm with a Celebration of Life to follow beginning at 3pm; Reverend Joe Genau will be officiating.

Remembering Julie -

She led and encouraged without judgement, believed in us and pushed us all to do better. She inspired each of us in our own unique ways and created a culture of acceptance while also offering uninhibited assistance, hope, and the drive for always doing the right thing.

Her beautiful heart shone through in every action and decision. She absolutely embodied every ounce of the passion and determination she expected from those around her. She perservered against many demons to whom most others would easily succumb. She accepted times of challenge and came through shining as a bright light of guidance.

Her humble grace provided an example for everyone else to follow. We loved her spirit, her grace and her genuine, loving heart. We will always and forever remember, honor and be thankful for the kind, warm and jovial heart that slipped from our lives, leaving an aching void. She lives on in each one of us as we treasure the laughter, hugs and amazing memories.

Thank you Julie, for all you brought to us, all you shared with us. Mostly, thank you for showing us how genuinely life can be lived. We can all become better humans by following your example. You'll continue to always live on in my heart and be my inspiration.

All the Hugs. We're gonna miss you!
