

Katherine “Kathy” Dorsett Raughley, devoted daughter, faithful wife, loving mother and doting grandmother, passed away in Birmingham, Alabama, on February 9, 2023 surrounded by her family. Kathy was born in Birmingham on June 5th, 1960 to John Edward Dorsett and Martha Reynolds Dorsett. She graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1978 and attended the University of Alabama, where she received a degree in interior design. She married Eugene Erwin Raughley in 1982 and they were the parents of three children.
While at the University, Kathy was a member of Alpha Chi Omega social sorority. She remained a loyal alumna, serving on House Corporation and assisting with the decoration of the sorority house. Kathy continued to be an avid Alabama fan after graduation, attending football games and teaching her grandchildren the fight song.
Kathy worked for 35 years in the construction and interior design business, during which time she built many relationships with clients who trusted her talent and advice. She also coordinated many parties and weddings, and created the floral arrangements that made them so special. In her free time, she particularly enjoyed traveling with friends and vacationing at the beach and Lake Martin. Her greatest joy was being Kit Kat to her 7 loving grandchildren.
Kathy is predeceased by her mother, Martha Reynolds Dorsett. She is survived by her father, John Edward Dorsett; her husband, Eugene Erwin Raughley, Jr.; her children Eugene Erwin Raughley III (Whitney), Caroline Raughley Luscher (Hayes), Hayden Raughley Barnett (Drew), her grandchildren Eugene Erwin Raughley IV, Dowling Raughley, Katherine Raughley (arriving in June) Reynolds Luscher, Hayes Luscher, Jr., Raughley Barnett and Vivian Barnett; her brother John Edward Dorsett, Jr. (Beth) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathy lived life passionately, savoring every moment, especially those spent with family and close friends. She was funny, talented, dependable, resilient and unforgettable. She lit up the room with her smile and her presence.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Spain Rehabilitation and Johnny Ward, M.D., the doctors and staff of UAB Neurology and Neurosurgery Service and Karon Jones and Paloma Jones who lovingly provided care for Kathy.
A Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 16, at 1:00 pm at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama.
