Kay Wallace was born in Cedar Vale, Kansas on May 23, 1938. She graduated from Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1956. She diligently pursued college while raising two children, attending Oklahoma State University, University of Tulsa and the University of Kansas before graduating from the University of Alabama in the eighties, fulfilling her father’s expectations for her. After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Social Work, she began a career of service. She worked for United Way of Alabama before going to Spain Rehabilitation Hospital. She had a long and productive career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, helping patients and their families achieve their goals. She was active in her church, singing in the choir and serving where she was able. Kay was a passionate advocate for human rights, volunteering frequently on a formal and informal basis. Kay had a love for travel and she never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Virginia Wallace, and her granddaughter Lucy Zweifel. She is survived by her two beloved daughters, two grandchildren, a brother and sister and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Services are at 2 pm on June 22 at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1024 12th Street South, Birmingham.
