Lynn Irene (Laabs) Alexander passed away in Birmingham, Alabama on November 28th, 2022 after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hattie Laabs, her brother Bruce Laabs, and her brother-in-law Randy Paape.
Lynn is survived by a wonderful network of cherished friends who were like family, and many former colleagues at St. Vincent's East, where she served as a Nurse Anesthetist for nearly four decades. She will also be terribly missed by her siblings Al (Joanna) Laabs, Barbara (Mike) Lepak, and Jerry (Jayme) Laabs, by her nieces and nephews Sarah (Chad) Neller, Alyson (Seth) Eaton, Dr. Megan Laabs, Dr. Tracy Laabs (Rob Stoltz), Dylan (Ashley) Laabs, and Jackson Laabs, as well as by her great-nieces Sydney, Lucy, and Tessa Eaton and her great-nephew Ryan Neller.
Lynn was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on June 7th, 1946. After high school, she attended St. Mary's Nursing School. Upon graduation (during the height of the Vietnam War), Lynn voluntarily joined the United States Army Nursing Corps. She went on to serve her country in a field hospital outside of Saigon from 1968 to 1969. Upon completion of a decorated term of service, Lynn then spent time amid the nursing field at the Army Base in Fort Carson, Colorado, in California, and in Houston before moving to Birmingham to pursue nurse anesthetist school at UAB. Lynn continued to put down roots in Birmingham and loved watching the Crimson Tide with friends, going to dinner or the theater, and visiting Door County, Wisconsin annually. She was quick to both smile and smirk as a devoted sister, aunt, employee, and loyal friend.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and angels of Hope Hospice, Always There In-home Care, SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice, and The Greenbriar at the Altamont, our partners in this journey. While there will be no public service at Lynn's request, the family will privately gather in Wisconsin to celebrate her life. In addition, they plan to honor her military service at Arlington National Cemetery.
