Mark Minoru Armistead passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023 at his home in Birmingham, Alabama. He was born on December 5, 1980 in El Paso, Texas. He lived his childhood in El Paso, Texas and Ramstein AFB, Germany. As an adult, he lived in California, Texas, and Alabama.
Mark graduated from Nashua High School in New Hampshire and moved to Alabama to attend the University of Alabama. He was a Digital Marketing Specialist for Motion, a job he enjoyed.
Anyone who knew Mark knew that he was quiet, smart and stubborn. When he was told something couldn’t be done, he couldn’t do it or not to do something, his motto was “I’ll show you.” And he did. To compliment that motto, Mark was incredibly kind. He saw the best in people when most people wouldn’t. He had the ability to spot the unique diamond facet of a personality instead of just seeing coal. You could count on Mark to be kind when others weren’t.
Mark’s other talent was to dispense wisdom in a palatable way. When someone came to him about work or work ethics, he would respond “You can strive on occasion to be the best, but you don’t actually have to be the best. The most important thing you can do is always care more than other people.”
Mark had the most unique laugh. When he really got going, his laughter was infectious. He was a generous spirit. He would give the shirt off his back for any friend. You were blessed if you were able to claim him as your friend. Mark was a wonderful cook. He would become obsessed with perfecting a dish. Luckily, his family and friends enjoyed the fruits of his obsessions.
Mark is survived by his parents, Martin and Hatsuko Armistead and his sister, Kiyomi Armistead, his Alabama family, Lee Brown, Charlotte Germek, Roxy, Jeremy and Laurie Mills and his co-workers at Motion, and in California, Angela Walters. He is also survived by numerous friends from all over the world.
Many thanks to those who have reached out to the Armistead family. They are extremely grateful for your love and compassion. While there are no words to express their loss, they are comforted that Mark was loved by so many.
