Mattie Louise Eldredge Lisenby

August 14, 1918November 15, 2011

LISENBY, MATTIE LOUISE ELDREDGE Age 93, died Tuesday Nov. 15, 2011. She was born to the late William Judson and Alma Eldredge on August 14, 1918 in Atlanta, Georgia where she lived most of her life. She wed the late Jack Lisenby in 1939 and they enjoyed 45 years together until his death in 1984. Mattie loved life and loved people. She was a hard worker and superb cook. Over the years, many Sunday school classes, bridge clubs, garden clubs, recipe clubs, and charities benefited from her loyal participation. But most of all Mattie loved her family and was most content in her role as wife and mother. She was a true Southern lady whom many will miss. Mattie loved the Lord and was currently a member of Liberty Park Baptist Church. Before her move to Birmingham in 2009, Mattie had been a charter member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church and later Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, both in Atlanta. Mattie will be missed by her two sons and two daughters, and their spouses who love her dearly. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive Mattie. A service to celebrate Mattie's life will be held at Liberty Park Baptist Church in Birmingham on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. CST, with a visitation at 9:30 a.m. CST. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. EST at Greenwood Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.

I met Mattie at the dedication of the monument to the lost mill workers of Roswell Manufacturing Company in 2000. As a descendant of Olney Eldredge, she was a guest of honor. On behalf of The Roswell Mills Camp 1547, Sons of Confederate Veterans, I extend our sincere condolences to her family for the loss of this fine lady.
