

Mavin Hudson Brookshire, 85, of Vestavia, AL, made her final transition peacefully on Saturday, July 20, with her children by her side. Mavin was born in Vale, NC, to Fred Dewey Hudson and Della Rhoney Hudson on April 24,1939. She attended George Hildebran High School and later graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in Science and Math. It was at college that she met her future husband, Douglas Kirk Brookshire, whom she was married to for 58 years. Mavin taught high school math and physics for many years, moving with her family several times before settling in Mobile, AL. Mavin and Kirk eventually retired to Birmingham, AL. Mavin is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her two brothers-in-law. She is survived by her children, Douglas Hudson Brookshire (Andrea), and Amy Brookshire Reese (Ray), her sister, Evelyn Hudson Johnson (Earl), her niece, Renee Johnson Harris (Howard), and her five grandchildren, Morgan Tucker Reese (DeOndra), Jillian Kathryn Reese, Lillian Jude Brookshire, Hudson James Brookshire and Clare Frances Brookshire. The family will celebrate her passing with a private memorial Friday, July 26, 2024. Mavin would like to share a passage from the Bible as her final goodbye. Ecclesiastes 3:1-15. It begins: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:”
