August 9, 2022, at the age of 81 in Birmingham Alabama.
She was predeceased by her parents, Chhotubhai R.
Desai and Manigauri C. Desai, her husband, Vinod R.
Desai, her sister Manjulaben S. Desai and her brother
Bhikubhai C. Desai. She is survived by her daughter Rupa
Desai Goolsby (Robert) of Birmingham, AL; daughter
Suma Desai Jain (Neeraj) of New Orleans, LA;
grandchildren Caroline, Emma and Robert Goolsby;
Manish and Leena Jain.
Ranjanben was born in Jalalpore, India and grew up in
Mumbai and Ahmedabad, India. She completed her
Bachelors in Education from Ruia College, Mumbai
University in 1960. In 1968, Ranjanben moved to the
United States and in 1970, earned dual Masters degrees
in Education and in Counseling from George Washington
University.
Her caring and patient nature served her well in her
career in education, initially as a special education
teacher and then as an elementary school guidance
counselor.
Ranjanben retired in 2000 from the Greenville County
South Carolina school system and in 2009, moved to
Birmingham Alabama to be closer to her family.
Her love of children and education was only surpassed by
her love for her family and her zest for life.
She was a mentally, physically, and emotionally strong
lady. Ranjanben will be fondly remembered for her love
of tennis and working out at Lifetime Fitness, her
determination, her remarkable memory and storytelling
ability. She cherished and maintained extremely close
connections with her large extended family, Indian
community, and countless friends.
Visitation will be held at Johns-Ridout Funeral home on
Sunday, August 14th at 9:30am followed by the funeral at
11am and cremation.
