On September 4, 2022, Troy went home to his Lord and Savior, passing peacefully in the presence of his wife, Earlene. Troy was born in Cleveland, MS to Reverend Beauregard Luke Mohon and Lois Wheeler Mohon, and he was married to Joy Earlene Mann of Columbus, MS on April 21, 1961. He is survived by his wife, Earlene, his two sons and their wives, David (Kristin) and Chad (Judy); and 4 grandchildren: Kyle, Andrew, William, and Caroline. Troy graduated from Okalona, MS High School in 1956 and from Mississippi College, with distinction, in 1960. He was a proud member of the US Army, attaining a rank of Master Sergeant and IGNCO during the Berlin Crisis in 1961-62 at Fort Polk, LA, and he served in the US Army Reserves for 20 years. He was employed with Deposit Guaranty National Bank in Jackson, MS as an investment officer in their Trust Department prior to his 20-year career with Protective Life in Birmingham, AL, as VP, Securities in the Investment Department. During his career, he earned licensure as a Chartered Financial Analyst (serving as the first treasurer of the Alabama Financial Analysts Society in the 1970’s), and he was a member of the Mensa Society. After retiring from Protective in 1997, he opened Mohon Capital Management where he successfully managed investment portfolios for private clients for over ten years as a Registered Investment Advisor. Troy was also a published author, with works of poetry published in The Selected Works of our World’s Best Poets. One of Troy’s best legacies is his positive contribution to numerous young men’s lives as he enthusiastically served as a little league baseball coach (earning the nickname “robo arm” as he was the consummate batting practice pitcher for both David and Chad’s baseball teams). He was always encouraging to every boy, regardless of their natural talent, and he measured success by smiles on boys faces much more than numbers on a score board. Troy was a long-time member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and also coaching boys’ basketball. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, but Praise God that he now walks (and plays ball) on streets of gold in the presence of his Lord and many other family and friends! In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association. https://www.alz.org/alzheimer_s_dementia.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.johnsridouts.com for the Mohon family.
