August 30, 1940 – April 8, 2021
Rosa Amalia Delfín Hernández peacefully passed on Thursday, April 8, 2021. She is survived by her husband of over 56 years, Andrés “Andy” Hernández. She was a loving mother to her son Andrés “Andy” Ramón Hernández and daughter-in-law Lisa Rene Hernández, and proud grandmother to Nicholas Scott Hernández and Ryan Christopher Hernández. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramón Delfín and Olivia Hernández Mendoza, her brother Ramón Emilio Delfín and her Godmother & Great Aunt Tia Nena Delfín. She is also survived by her siblings Eduardo Marcelino Delfín, Ricardo Carlos Delfín, Lourdes Concepción Delfín and Roberto Gabriel Delfín, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a native of Cienfuegos, Cuba.
Rosa left Cuba to exile in the United States in 1961. She met Andy in Philadelphia where they were married at the Catholic church of Villanova University in 1964. She and Andy lived in New Jersey for six years and then moved to Lakeland, Florida for 49 years, where she volunteered at Church of the Resurrection, the Polk Museum of Art, Florida House, Needlework Guild and at all of Andy Jr’s schools.
She moved to Birmingham, with Andy, in 2019 to be close to her children and grandchildren. She was a talented pianist who enjoyed traveling, cooking and watching Florida Gator football. Most of all she enjoyed entertaining friends and family at home in Lakeland, where she was always the life of the party. Her priorities, consistently, were to put God and family first. Rosa was a parishioner of Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Birmingham.
After a private funeral Mass, friends are invited to visit with the family between 3pm and 5pm (CDT) on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Masks are required.
