

Stella Cocoris Agras, age 72, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on October 18, 2021. Stella was born July 14, 1949, in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of the late Gus and Katina Cocoris, and sister of the late Tasia Pasisis. Stella was devoted to the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) and loved her colleagues. As Assistant VP of Enrollment Services and University Registrar, she and her team helped transform UAB from a part-time student destination to a comprehensive academic enterprise before retiring from UAB in 2011, after 32 of service. In her retirement, her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren.
A member of Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral, she is survived by her husband Aris, son George, daughter Katie Schlueter (Drew), grandchildren Stella, Lukas, James and Alex, nephews Gus Pasisis, Tom Pasisis (Gina), great-nephew Tommy, great-niece Caroline, and Harry Jr. (Suzanne and daughter Sloan) and long-time friends Maria Derzis, Melissa Burgess, Maria Johnson, Gredda Bailey, Lynn Alexander, and many others.
Visitation will be held at 10am on Friday October 22, 2021, followed by a Funeral service at 11am at Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 307 19th St S, Birmingham, AL 35233, internment at Elmwood Cemetery. Paulbearers are Andrew Staursky, Daniel Staursky, Dimitri Staursky, Tommy Pasisis, Stan Putnam, Mike Derzis and Myron Chwe. Honorary paulbearers are Earnest Stevens and John Krontiras.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral (here to give online) and/or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama at UAB (Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, PO Box 531225, Birmingham AL 35253 (here).
