Surin came to the US in pursuit of the American dream through the Catholic mission to study English and then went on to earn a Master's degree at Loma Linda. He worked in LA at a pizza restaurant and a sweatshop before finding home in the South.
He loved his family more than anything and cherished all the time they spent together. Home was not a house, it was where his family was: Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Pine Point, Maine, Birmingham, Alabama, and the infamous sprinter vans.
Surin was a father to many and improved the lives of all he met. He gave everyone the opportunities he never had, not just because he could, but because he wanted everyone to succeed. He was true to himself.
He had reached Nirvana and the peak of contentment through his Buddhist lifestyle. Most of all he loved his life, his wife, his children, and his chickens.
Surin’s parting words:
Focus and discipline yields intellect.
Just be happy, don’t try to seek happiness or avoid unhappiness.
If you knew him for a short time, he was weird. If you knew him for a long time, he was REAL.
Please note that the celebration of Surin’s life will be outdoors at his farm, 2484 Eastern Valley Road, Leeds, AL 35094. Saturday, January 13; 11am-1pm. Please dress casually in warm clothing and shoes (it may be muddy).
