Susan was born on August 21, 1939 in Fairfield, AL. She spent many years in modeling and the makeup artistry industry in Birmingham.
Susan was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church and was an active supporter of many charities including the Diabetes Association, Cancer Society, and the Birmingham Heart Guild, serving as it's president 1992-93.
Susan found the love of her life, Russ Maddox and together they started a successful company, Russ Pharmaceuticals in 1979. Susan and Russ enjoyed 39 years together, and loved travel and their lake life.
She was affectionately known as "Gigi" to her family and she had a special place in her heart for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an avid lover of animals and nature and enriched the lives of those around her with her gentle graceful spirit.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, James Thomas and Zelna M. Flynn.
Susan is survived by her husband, Russell H. Maddox, son Russell H. Maddox, Jr.(Laura), daughters Kelley L. McCallum(Phillip), Leigh Ann Ansley(Tom), grandchildren Christopher(Jenni) and Patrick Maddox, Emily Maddox Purcell(Chris), Caitlin, Savannah, and Murphy McCallum, Olivia Ansley, Rivers Wilson(Steven), great-grandchildren John Maddox Purcell, Taylor Sue Wilson and brothers Gordon Flynn(Mammie) and Bruce Flynn(Gail) and many nieces and nephews.
Susan loved her companion Lace. Thanks to the Thompsons for their love and care of Lace during Susan's illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Independent Presbyterian Church, 3100 Highlands Ave., Birmingham, AL 35205.
A private service will be held for family members.
