Theodore E. Dasher
Passed away on January 2, 2020
Theodore Edward Dasher (Ted) of Birmingham, Alabama and Key West, Florida passed away on January 2, 2020 at his home in Birmingham. Ted was pre-deceased by his parents, Abbie Converse Dasher and Hasen Violet Barnett Dasher, his brothers Alan Dasher and Abbie Boring Dasher, and his son Matthew Vann Dasher. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carole Vann Dasher, his son Theodore Edward Dasher, Jr. (Libby) of Birmingham, his daughter Laurie Michele Dasher of Los Gatos, California, and his grandchildren Benson Alan Dasher, Anna Grace Dasher, Jared Vigliecca and Alex Vigliecca. Ted was born on November 14, 1939 in Miami, Florida to a pioneering south Florida family who were among the early settlers in Key West, arriving in Key West in 1842 from Scotland via Bilbao, Spain, Minorca, and the Bahamas, with one branch going on to settle in Coconut Grove, Florida in 1895, one year before the establishment of Miami as a town. Ted graduated from Coral Gables High School and earned degrees at the University of Florida (B.S.M.E., M.S.E.E.), New York University (M.S.E.E.) with additional graduate work in mathematics at Georgia Institute of Technology. His career took him to Bell Telephone Laboratories, Lockheed Aviation and several architectural/building-oriented companies before he established Ted Dasher & Associates, a firm dealing in software, hardware and technical and engineering services in Birmingham. Ted’s passion for salt water fishing led him to adventures in Australia, Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and, of course, Key West. His interest in hunting took him to Greene County, Alabama and multiple countries in Africa, most notably Mozambique. A private memorial will be held in Key West at a later date. Special thanks are due to Comfort Care Hospice, especially his nurse Vicky Anderson. If desired memorials may be made to Reef Relief, 631 Greene Street, Key West, Florida 33040, www.reefrelief.org.
