MATE, VIRGINIA SYKES COBB, age 96, born in Birmingham, has now come to her final rest on August 2, 2010. Virginia held an undergraduate degree from Samford University and a masters degree from The University of Alabama. She taught second grade at Gate City Elementary School. Her memory will be cherished by her son, Stanley S. Mate; daughter, Patricia M. Knox; grandchildren, Allison Feierabend, Suzanne Givens, Alex Mate, and Erin Houston; great-grandchildren, Christopher Given, Ryan Jay Givens, Taylor Mate, and Shane Houston. Graveside services were held on August 11, 2010 in Elmwood Cemetery.
